David Bailey Sticker Flashback

Submitted by on October 27, 2008

I haven’t done an MX post for a while, but seeing as I went for a ride on the weekend i’m all fired up again.

No dirt bike is complete without some cool stickers and for that matter, no fridge in the workshop is complete without them either.

Over at Racer X Illustrated they have a great little photo gallery where American Motocross legend David Bailey takes readers through his old MX sticker collection.

David Bailey was known as one of the fastest and smoothest riders in history and won the 250cc AMA Motocross Championship and Supercross Championship in 1983 and the 500cc AMA Motocross Championship in 1986.

The mid eighties were a tough time to be a pro MX rider as Bailey had to compete against some serious talent including Rick Johnson, Jeff Ward, Johnny O’Mara and Broc Glover. However when teamed with these riders Bailey won the Motocross des Nations 5 times with the all conquering USA team from 1982 to 1986.

I have to say my favourite is the Rex Staten Fox sticker. That early Fox logo is a classic. “Rocket Rex” was one of the American heroes who came to Australia in the early eighties when Supercross was unknown here. He thrilled the local crowds with his signature trick, the “no hander”.
