Photo Flashback: US Motocross 1970s

Submitted by on July 29, 2009

These fantastic images were taken by Randy Petree from ClassicMotocrossImages.com

Randy has been a motorcycle enthusiast since the 1970s. He began racing motocross in 1973, but was also a regional press photographer between races and was lucky enough to witness the start of the American National Motocross scene.

The shots you see here are mostly taken from US 125 and 250cc Nationals in 1977 and 1978 and feature unforgettable names like Bob Hannah (#2 Yamaha), Jimmy Ellis (#18 Honda), Mark Barnett (#24 Suzuki), Broc Glover (#17 Yamaha), Danny LaPorte (#7 Suzuki), Jeff Ward (#336 Suzuki), Gaylon Mosier (#12 Kawasaki) and Danny “Magoo” Chandler (#594 Suzuki).

I love all those open face helmets, round number plates with funky numbers and early JT riding gear. What great memories.

Thanks to Randy for the use of these special images.
