Thackwell’s right up there as one of the greatest lost talents, surely? He got out of racing and did all manner of different things: teacher, surfing instructor, working in a shop etc. Very much a free spirit and somebody who probably would’ve hated all the politics, money and ego that pervades the sport now. He still keeps an eye on what’s going on – his sister Lisa is married to Aussie sportscar ace David Brabham. Brabs keeps him informed of what’s going on!
