Classic Ads- James Hunt and “Morecambe and Wise” for Texaco 1977
These two classic Texaco commercials feature Eric Morecambe, Ernie Wise and 1976 World Champion James Hunt.
They are both bloody funny and were produced by the legendary and highly influential British ad agency Collett Dickenson Pearce (CDP).
It seems Mr Hunt is having a good time in both ads and is trying hard to not burst out laughing. It’s no wonder as Morecambe and Wise were a hilarious duo.
Morecambe and Wise were a famous British comic double act, their partnership lasted from 1941 until Morecambe’s death in 1984. They have been described as “the most illustrious, and the best-loved, double-act that Britain has ever produced”.
For some reason I just can’t imagine any of today’s F1 stars agreeing to appear in skits like these.

I wonder if James was wearing any shoes?
Yes , the ads are hilarious and you are so right one cannot imagine any of today’s formula one drivers agreeing to appear in ads like these . Mind you if they did appear they’d find it easier than James to keep a straight face — most of them haven’t smiled yet alone laughed for years .
Got to agree, John, what a humourless lot they are these days. Morecombe and Wise, however, now that’s another story. Along with The Two Ronnies, arguably the funniest comedy shows of the 70′s. Thanks for posting this, I got a good laugh.
