Steve McQueen helmets by Troy Lee Designs

Submitted by on January 20, 2010

Whilst these Steve McQueen motocross helmets probably won’t appeal to purists , it’s good to see the McQueen legend being exposed to another generation of motorsport fans.

If your idea of a classic helmet design is a primary colour with a couple of stripes, these bold lids by famed American artist Troy Lee just won’t be your thing.

Here is the blurb….

Troy Lee Designs announced a three-year licensing partnership with the Steve McQueen estate, which is represented by GreenLight , to produce a limited edition helmet line. The lids will retail for US$525, with only 700 units going into production. This will be the first in a series of Steve McQueenâ„¢ helmet styles that will roll out over the next three years.

“My dad was an avid motorcyclist and huge supporter of the sport,” said Chad McQueen, Steve’s son. “It’s great to see his love for motorcycling live on through new limited edition helmets.”

“I have looked up to Steve McQueen my entire life,” says Troy Lee. “I have always held great respect for him and everything he represented. I am truly excited to forge this relationship and look forward to designing a collection that represents Steve’s timeless style and personality.”
