Formula 5000 Photo Gallery: Phillip Island Classic 2010

Submitted by on March 22, 2010

Oh Formula 5000 you are so good.

These cars are as close to classic motorsport perfection as anybody could ever want.

They are aggressive, pack dirty big V8 engines, sport wild aluminum bodywork, have tyres as wide as a park bench, were driven by legends, look dangerous and make THAT noise.

Please someone strap me into one of these things and send me off down the pit lane!

I digress. Phillip Island is a magic venue for these 70s rockets ships. The racetrack is fast, flowing, challenging and changeable and the F5000 boys used its wide open spaces to put on a show.

Everyone of the guys who pilot these beasts rate a mention, however you cant help but be impressed with Ken Smith’s winning  pace in the 1976 Lola T430. Go Kenny go.

Here are some photos from the event.
