Legends of Motorsports Announces 2011 Schedule

Submitted by on January 13, 2011

Legends of Motorsports, A Bobby Rahal Signature Event, has released dates for its 2011 calendar. The historic racing series will return to Barber Motorsports Park, Circuit Mont-Tremblant and Sebring International Raceway for its sophomore season.

Following the success of the inaugural season, Legends of Motorsports made few changes to its event schedule. The series will once again kick off at Barber Motorsports Park, in Birmingham Ala., on May 20 – 22. The second event is slated for July 8 – 10 in Tremblant, Quebec, Canada, at Circuit Mont-Tremblant. The 2011 season will again close at Sebring International Raceway, in Sebring, Fla., Dec. 2 – 4.

“We very much took an ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,’ approach to the 2011 schedule,” 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner and series co-founder Bobby Rahal said. “We received a great deal of positive feedback from our participants this year about the tracks we went to and we’ve built some excellent relationships with each of the venues. By creating a similar 2011 schedule, we know we’ve got something our participants will enjoy and we’re creating consistency to help them plan their season.”

The series will aim to re-create another successful season opener at Barber Motorsports Park, which exposed numerous historic racing enthusiasts to the relatively new track in the U.S. road racing landscape. The immaculate facility, which includes the celebrated Barber Motorsports Museum, is an ideal venue for Legends of Motorsports’ vision to elevate historic racing in North America.

“We’re honored to welcome back Legends of Motorsports in 2011,” Barber Motorsports Park Founder George Barber said. “The series is an excellent compliment to what we’re trying to accomplish at Barber Motorsports Park in preserving and celebrating great racing history. The feedback from fans and participants was overwhelmingly positive this year, which leads me to believe the 2011 event will be even more successful.”

Legends of Motorsports will again spend the second weekend of July in the shadow of the Laurentian Mountains, at Circuit Mont-Tremblant. Brimming with Canadian motorsports history, the track, located approximately two hours northwest of Montreal, is regarded worldwide for its technicality and beauty. The surrounding vacation resorts provide an additional boost to its popularity.

“Legends of Motorsports first event at Circuit Mont-Tremblant went even better than expected,” noted Canadian businessman and historic racing participant Lawrence Stroll said. “I think the level of professionalism and organization truly does take historic racing to a new level in North America. As a historic racing enthusiast myself, I’m eagerly awaiting Legends of Motorsports’ return to Tremblant.”

The 2011 season will end the first weekend in December at Florida’s Sebring International Raceway, site of the world famous 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race.

“We’re already anxiously awaiting our first Legends of Motorsports event, which will take place in less than two months,” Sebring President and General Manager Tres Stephenson said. “Establishing a 2011 date with Legends of Motorsports now speaks to our confidence in the vision of the series. Having such a rich motorsports history at Sebring, it’s a perfect fit to welcome an event that celebrates the greatest eras in racing.”

With three established events in place for 2011, Legends of Motorsports is confident its second season will be as well received as the first. Acquired knowledge from its inaugural season is aimed at creating an even greater level of service and quality for participants and fans. At the same time, the series continues to actively investigate the addition of new and equally stellar events to its calendar.

“The 2011 schedule is all about quality over quantity,” Legends of Motorsports President Rena Shanaman said. “We established some fantastic events in 2010 and are excited to be partnered again with the three venues. We remain open to any additional opportunities that support Legends of Motorsports’ mission to elevate historic racing in North America.”
