Best of The Cahier Archive: Stirling Moss

Submitted by on June 17, 2011

Brooks_Moss_1957_EnglandSir Stirling Moss announced his retirement from competitive motor racing last weekend and in doing so marked the end of an astonishing career.

Moss, who raced from 1948 to 1962, won 212 of the 529 races he entered, including 16 Formula 1 Grands Prix. Since the end of his professional career Moss has participated mainly in historic racing, driving just about every machine imaginable.

Without question, Sir Stirling  is one of the fastest drivers to ever sit in a racing car, and combined with his undying love for racing, danger and crumpet he is nothing short of a superstar.

Speaking to Autosport.com about his retirement Stirling showed he has lost none of his personality when he said” I certainly wouldn’t want to exchange my time for today. They earn a lot more money, but the fun – I mean, when Lewis Hamilton wins a grand prix he has to talk to the television people and then go and speak to Vodafone. If I won a race I’d go off chasing the crumpet! There was no one to pay lip service to. Quite a different life!

Legend.
