For Sale: 1971 Matra F1 MS120

1971 Matra MS120

This lovely ex-Chris Amon Matra MS120 is for sale through Art & Revs Luxembourg.

It debuted in 1971 with a victory in the non-championship round in Argentina, finishing ahead of Henri Pescarolo and Carlos Reutemann over the aggregated two-heat event. Amon campaigned the car throughout the ’71 Formula One season, achieving the car’s best finish of third in the Spanish Grand Prix.

The car was upgraded for the start of the ’72 season and used until Brands Hatch, where Amon guided it to fourth place.

Since retiring from Formula One competition the car has run successfully in historic racing, winning its category at the Monaco Grand Prix Historique in 2008. It has received a full rebuild and is currently the only MS120 race-ready with original specifications.

    So, which car is this one?

    The short bio takes bits and pieces from several chassis…

    “It debuted in 1971 with a victory in the non-championship round in Argentina, finishing ahead of Henri Pescarolo and Carlos Reutemann over the aggregated two-heat event.”

    Well, no car debuted at the Argentine GP 1971. Amon won driving Pesarolo´s usual 1970 car, chassis 02. That car never raced again.

    “Amon campaigned the car throughout the ’71 Formula One season, achieving the car’s best finish of third in the Spanish Grand Prix.”

    If that is the case, the car we are talking about was chassis 03. End of the series, MS120B would take over as from that point.

    “The car was upgraded for the start of the ’72 season and used until Brands Hatch, where Amon guided it to fourth place.”

    And that was acxhieved with MS 120 chassis 04! This car was again never raced after that, but it was the car that Niki Lauda tested at the Zeltweg track until the engine exploded.

    So back to the original question : which is the car being sold?
