Video: ’88 Monte Carlo Grand Prix from SENNA

Senna During the Monaco Grand Prix, 1988

“The circuit for me was a tunnel, which I was just going, going, going. And I realised – I was well beyond my conscious understanding.”

This clip from SENNA puts you right up front with the man himself, driving at the very limit of his ability and, in his words; his understanding, miles out in front of the pack during the 1988 Monaco Grand Prix.

The stunning on-board footage (watch in 720p if you can) is accompanied by his contemplation on the journey and how he drove that day. Well worth a watch, a listen, and a ponder.

His quote is in reference to the state of his spirit. Ayrton entered the realm of being enveloped by pure spirit. Where there wasn’t any thought, only reaction to emotion. His spirit was noticibly more radiant than most peoples’. Or else, he wouldn’t be so payed-attention-too, after his death. He was capable of slipping into ”The Zone”with still retaining temperance and balance. All the while, being aware of where he was…..and is. -Rich L.
