Gallery: 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera

Submitted by on June 24, 2012

This storied 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera, raced by the likes of Vic Elford and Gijis van Lennep, last sold in 2012 at Tillack.

It kicked off its World Sportscar Championship career with Team Holland, who took it to seventh overall in the 1000km of Nurburgring at the hands of Ben Pon and Gijis van Lennep. Next up was the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which Vic Elford and Ben Pon took another seventh overall.

From there it moved to amateur teams, who continued to race it extensively.

A complete and meticulous restoration under the watchful eye of Bruce Canepa signalled the start of a quieter life, and it was put on display in the Blackhawk Museum.

Its last owner purchased it in 2004 and snapped it out of its peaceful reverie; actively campaigning it in historic motorsport events like the Monterey Historics before moving it on in 2012.

It’s a Porsche 906 – one of sportscar racing’s most glorious machines. It has an extensive and successful racing history and providence. It’s restored, but still active, and ready for more historic racing.
