1976 Porsche 911 RSR Replica

Track terror one day; tarmac rally monster the next, this ’76 Porsche 911 RSR Replica is stunning, super fast and completely without compromise. It’s up for sale over at Classic Throttle Shop and looking for someone to take it racing again.

The car started life as an Australian-delivered 1976 Porsche 2.7 Coupe, was commissioned in July 2000 and took until March 2001 to be completed.

Initially built to compete in Targa Tasmania, where it would go on to win its class and category in 2001 and follow up with a class win in 2002, this car was configured with a 3.6 ltr twin plug engine. In 2002 it was further developed and converted to RSR style coil over with 935 style trailing arm links and brakes upgraded to Mk 1 GT3 spec. In 2006/07 the 3.6 ltr engine was completely rebuilt to 3.8 ltr and given all the correct performance upgrades. Mahle pistons, GE 80 cams, 50mmPMOs; all good strong stuff inside. The engine has only covered approximately 500 kms since and is now fitted to the car ready for its next outing as per the images below.

This is where the car’s second personality comes in.

In 2007, at huge expense, the car’s new 3.2 ltr RSR style power plant was built by Jerry Woods in San Jose and subsequently developed and tuned by PR Technology.

The crank case is from a 1976 Turbo, 98mm Mahle pistons, 70.4mm crank, Carrillo rods, Raceware bolts, GE100 cam, NOS Factory high butterfly throttle bodies (ORIGINAL PORSCHE PART!), twin plug heads, the case has been ‘boat tailed’ and the pistons ‘mooned’. All ancillary parts are BRAND NEW original or as close to as possible. This is one very special (and powerful at over 350 bhp!) engine, which is available separately (contact CTS for further information).

It has been set up to lead the dual life of circuit racer, with the 3.8 ltr motor, OR tarmac rally weapon, with the RSR style motor, in either Classic C2 Handicap or C3 outright (minor changes in car configuration determine whether C2 or C3 eligible).

To swap over the engine takes a day and you can have the car set up for track days and sprints or fully ready the next week for Targa.

Built at huge expense without any compromises and by the right guys at PR Tech, this is truly a fantastic car

Head to Classic Throttle Shop or see below for more information.
