Event Preview: The 2012 Ennstal Classic

Submitted by on July 11, 2012

First run in 1993, the Ennstal Classic brings together a tremendous collection of historic sports and racing cars, along with a healthy helping of motorsport legends, for an epic rally through the picturesque mountain roads of the Alps. The 2012 Ennstal Classic kicks off on Wednesday the 11th of July and runs until Saturday the 14th of July. It’s shaping up to be brilliant, and not to be missed!

Over the course of the three-day event, 230 teams representing 52 different marques will tackle around nine hundred competitive kilometers before finishing up with a regularity challenge in the center of Gröbming.

Among the 350 registrations for the event are Sir Stirling Moss and Norman Dewis, who will hop in the original Jaguar XKC which they drove in the 1952 Mille Miglia, and Nigel Mansell, who will be steering a Porsche 917 at the Chopard Grand Prix in Gröbming.

They’ll be joined by Jo Vonlanthen in his Ferrari 500 F2, the iconic combination of Derek Bell and a Porsche 956, Walter Röhrl in a Porsche 718 Spyder, Keke Rosberg’s Wolf-Cosworth Formel 1 WR8/9, a 14.5 litre LaFrance Tourer from 1917, and a Mercedes 300 SL Prototyp, which won the Carrera Panamericana in 1952. Not to mention all of the guys and girls who make up the historic motoring community and are the true unsung legends of the sport!
