“You want to learn to work on your bike and modify it. You need space, tools, and someone to teach you. Problem; you live in Sydney with no garage space, and the only place you have to work on your bike is your living room, which is up 5 flights of stairs.”

It’s a problem many of us face, especially as we tend to live more and more in big cities where space comes at a significant premium. And it’s a problem Rising Sun Workshop, Sydney’s first community motorcycle workshop, hopes to solve.

But they need your help to get there. The team are employing crowd-funding to get the workshop off the ground and have raised, at time of writing, A$31,501 of their initial A$35,000 goal.

With the A$35, 000 goal reached they will build a communal space that will provide five workshop bays, each with workbenches and a full set of tools. They’ll also be able to equip the workshop with a MIG welder, a basic range of specialist tools, compressed air for each bay and bike storage.

If they can stretch to an A$50, 000 goal they’ll be able to provide a TIG welder, metal lathe, drill press, larger range of fabrication and speciality tools, chill out area and Wi-Fi.

Once up and running the workshop will run on an affordable annual membership fee and most tiers of their Pozible page provide access to at least one year of membership.

It’s an idea which we, as fellow bike builders and lovers, are more than happy to get behind and truly hope succeeds! Head to the Rising Sun Workshop Pozible page here for the full information, and to help out!
