Sydney is about to add a new feather to its historic racing cap, with the launch of Sydney Retro Speedfest – a brand new historic racing event for 2014.
The inaugural Sydney Retro Speedfest will be held over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of May, 2014, at Sydney Motorsport Park and present events for everything from sportscar racers and Formula 1 cars to heritage touring cars, Formula Vee and sports cars. It’s already shaping up to be one of Australia’s great historic racing events and we can’t wait to get stuck in!
The collection of classic race cars heading to the event includes sportscar racers from McLaren, Lola, Matcich, Elfin and more, open-wheeled race cars from the likes of Ferrari, Lotus and Brabham, the tight and exciting racing of Formula Ford and Formula Vee, as well as sports cars from the ’60s and ’70s such as Porsches, Corvettes, Alfas, Austin Healeys and MGs.
If sedans are more your groove, Heritage Touring Cars from the ’70s through to the ’90s will bring legendary racing machines from BMW, Nissan, Toyota and of course Ford and Holden to the track to thrill crowds with bumper to bumper racing, and Touring Cars from the ’60s and ’60s; Mustangs, Camaros, Toranas and Minis, are sure to keep spectators on the edge of their seats.
As well as showcasing the best of classic racing cars in Australia, the event is focusing on producing a fun, festival atmosphere that all can enjoy. This includes unprecedented access for all ticket holders to the pits and paddock to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere, community and action as cars and crew get stuck into racing (and socialising). This aspect of historic racing is unique to it, and very special, so it’s great to see such a focus on it from organisers.
The event will also feature a static display of the finest and most storied historic racers in the country, a race simulator and a chance to win a track ride in a race car. Live music, a fashion show and a jumping castle are planned to keep the entire family happy and entertained throughout the weekend.
