Honda F1 engines of the past – FW11 unleashed

Honda F1 enginesSoak up the glorious sound of 1980s turbocharged Formula One as Honda engineers fire up Nigel Mansell’s old FW11 and take it for a blast. The Honda F1 V6TT engine was capable of over 1000hp.

Come race time the screaming 12,000rpm, 1.5L RA166E engine produced around 800 horsepower, however during qualifying that figure rested somewhere north of 1000 horsepower. With 4-bar of boost pressure crammed into the tiny engine by a pair of extremely aggressive turbochargers, these engines were built for short-term glory.

25 years later racing fans worldwide are still intoxicated by the cars and engines of this unforgettable Formula One era. In this video we see Honda engineers fire up and blast around in one of the very best, the Honda F1 powered Williams FW11 as driven by Nigel Mansell in 1986.
