The Historic Sports and Racing Car Association of New South Wales returned to Sydney Motorsport Park over the last weekend of November, to spend a summer weekend celebrating the golden age of motorsport.

The Tasman Trophy builds upon the much-loved Tasman Revival historic race meetings as a national historic race meet which welcomes all historic categories and provides feature events for the cars of the Tasman Series and Formula 5000s.

This year’s event saw a brilliant and varied collection of sports and racing machinery gather at Sydney Motorsport Park for a packed weekend of motorsport. All categories were beautifully represented, from older sportscars and racers through to the always-exciting Group N, mighty Formula 5000s (which really do make the Earth shake) and Formula 1 legends, and everything in between.

The variety and fiery racing of the massive fields of Porsches, Fords, Holdens, Alfas, Minis, Austins, Mazdas and more that make up Groups S and N are brilliant to watch. Awesome open wheelers like the 1982 Penske Indy Car, 1972 Surtees F1:TS9B#6, 1982 Spirit Honda/BMW and of course the huge 16-strong field of Formula 5000s and no less fierce ’60s open wheelers, Formula Juniors and Formula Fords are captivating.

We also loved watching the 1966 Ferrari 206SP Replica seduce everyone who passed by with its stunning looks.

Racing throughout the weekend was closely-competed and well driven, and it’s a real joy to us that these cars are not just maintained beautifully, but are used and raced hard. If you head out to the track to check out the racing it doesn’t matter what group is out, you’re bound to enjoy a fun and exciting race.

And when you head back into the pits and paddock the people of Australia’s historic motorsport scene are some of the friendliest and most relaxed you’ll find. It’s a great atmosphere and always a pleasure to get up close and personal with these beautiful machines and to chat with the people who run and maintain them.

Next time out the HSRCA is heading to Wakefield Park to work off some of the holiday’s feasting with an action packed Historic Summer meet. It’ll be held at Wakefield Park on the 21st and 22nd of February, 2015, and we can’t wait!
