1994 Mercedes C-Class DTM

Revel in the glory days of mid-’90s Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft racing in this classic clip from Top Gear Motorsport, which sees Tiff Needell taking us for a run in the championship-winning 1994 Mercedes C-Class DTM.

The clip is introduced at the Hockenheimring around the final round of the 1994 DTM season, which Klaus ‘König’ Ludwig had already won.

It’s full of great period footage, including interviews with the German touring car legend as well as 1982 Formula 1 World Champion Keke Rosberg. They go into some detail discussing the challenges the series faced as well as the technology allowed by the regulations and its interplay with the quality of the racing.

“Bit of oversteer in there. I quite liked that! It’s so nice to be in rear wheel drive mode!”

Tiff gives us a run down of the C-Class DTM, taking it out for a few runs of Hockenheimring’s short circuit before putting in a great speed run to close things out. Hit play, and enjoy!
