This mighty Nissan NPT-90 Group C won the 1991 12  Hours of Sebring, helping Geoff Brabham secure his fourth consecutive IMSA GTP title. It’s up for sale at Pendine.

The car, chassis 90-03, was built in 1990 and debuted at Tampa in the back half of the 1990 season. It was quick out the gates, qualifying second in the Nissan World Challenge of Tampa and finishing fifth. It would do the same in the final round of the 1990 season – the Camel Grand Prix of Greater San Diego.

90-03 spent most of its time in the hands of Chip Robinson, but its greatest success would arrive when brothers Geoff and Gary Brabham and teammate Derek Daly drove it to victory in the 1991 Sebring 12 Hours.

Geoff Brabham put the car on pole for the race, with a second NPT-90 driven by Chip Robinson, Bob Earl and Julian Bailey next to them in second.

In the race, the Porsche 962C of Bob Wollek, Bernd Schnieder and Massimo Sigala took the lead early, holding it for about 80 laps before our car was able to claim it again. 90-03 and its sister car traded the lead occasionally for the remainder of the race, eventually crossing the line in a 1-2 Nissan finish.

The car would find more success a few weeks later on the streets of Miami, claiming third in the Grand Prix of Miami. Following that, it was entered in the 1991 Grand Prix of Atlanta at Road Atlanta, but was crashed in practice.

Following the Road Atlanta incident it was put into storage with the option of being refreshed as a spare car, but was eventually sold without seeing any further use. It was restored in the late ’90s by Matrix Motors and sold again to Peter Stoneburg in 2002. Stoneburg added another important moment to its history, displaying it alongside other race Sebring 12 Hour race winners winners at the 50th anniversary of the event.

Nissan NPT-90 90-03 was bought by its current owner in 2012 and maintained for motorsport by Phil Scott Motorsport. In his care it has run successfully throughout Europe, claiming a win in the Historic Grand Prix of Zandvoort in 2014 amongst other successes.

This magnificent Group C racer represents an important period in Nissan’s motorsport history, is in great racing shape and has a successful and interesting race history on its books. It’s up for sale at Pendine and you can find the full details on their official website here.
