Le Mans 1977 Onboard Porsche 936 Spyder

Submitted by on December 2, 20085 Comments

There is nothing quite like the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Having been to the race in both 1993 and 2000 I just cant get enough of the history and excitement that surrounds this awesome event.

Standing in the forest next to the guardrail on the Mulsanne straight at 1am while the cars scream past at close to 400kp/h is absolutely unforgettable!

In this video Jurgen Barth takes us for a flying lap in the Martini Racing Porsche 936 Spyder.

This car went on to take overall victory in the hands of Le Mans legend Jacky Ickx, American Hurley Haywood and German driver Jurgen Barth.

The win gave Ickx his fourth Le Mans win and a famous ”hat trick”  having also won the ’75 and ’76 event.

Hold on tight!

Fantastic! I’ve been to Le Mans over 2o times and it still has that je ne sais quoi. It is the greatest race on earth, no question. Keep up the good work – this is a FUNKY site!

What wondeful footage, and what an amazing speed differential between the 936 and the Carrera RSR’s (themselves not slow). Vern Schuppan spoke very fondly of the 936′s at Lemans – he mentioned they were beautifully balanced, fast and reliable. Ideal ingredients for good results at LeMans I guess?

When you’re going fast enough to call a Carrera RSR “slow traffic” you are, in fact, going fast!
