Harvey Mushman Retro Clothing
Harvey Mushman was the alias of the king of cool, Steve McQueen. He often raced under this name in order to avoid attention and the ire of directors and studios who had attempted to ban him from motor racing.
Now you can buy a range of retro inspired Harvey Mushman clothing. The gear includes T shirts, hoodies and jackets featuring quotes from McQueen and reminders of the Elsinore Grand Prix made famous in the film On any Sunday.
In 1971 the Elsinore Grand Prix attracted some 1500 riders and a crowd of 50,000, all of whom came to watch a race through the streets and foothills of this sleepy little Californian town. However that year the event went down in history as Steve McQueen and a film crew descended on the town and the event was turned into one of the most famous motorcycle films of all time.
Photographer William Claxton in his famous photographic essay on McQueen, recalls a typical phone call one Sunday at 4.00am! “Hey Clax, what’s happenin’, you wanna go with us? I’m meetin’ with Bud and Dan and some of the other cats up in Palmdale. We’re headin’ out to Mojave, a cross country bike race. We’ll have breakfast. Eggs over easy, bacon, hash browns, hot coffee. It’ll be a blast”.
