Retro Bike Racer Helmets

Submitted by Rich Fowler on December 17, 2009 – 7:27 AMNo Comment

There are few items of a racer’s kit there are more symbolic than their helmet. When a rider puts on his helmet, he transforms from regular man into another person, someone capable of heroic, history making deeds.

It is no surprise then, that the design on a riders lid is as memorable to the enthusiast as any classic livery.

Back in the 70s and 80s rider’s helmet designs were all about bold patterns, simple colours and clever stripes.  Artist Giannis Ragias has captured the essence of the era brilliantly with his cartoonish artwork of classic brain buckets.

Featured are bike Grand Prix and Superbike legends Barry Sheene, Wes Cooley, Kenny Roberts, Randy Mamola, Freddie Spencer, Dave Aldana and Eddie Lawson.

Enjoy.
