Video: Carrera Panamericana 1950-1954 Preview

Submitted by on February 15, 2011

The Carrera Panamericana was a sports car racing event held on open roads in Mexico, similar to the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio in Italy. It ran from a southern Mexican west-coast city towards Texas.  Running from 1950 to 1954, it was widely held by contemporaries to be the most dangerous race of any type in the world.

This fantastic preview of filmmaker Stephen Mitchell’s documentary about the famous Mexican road races has been done in collaboration with Ron Kellogg, whose extensive archive of original footage was the catalyst for the documentary, together with Jeanetta Dumouchel.

The footage is simply breathtaking and combined with some fascinating interviews, leaves you wanting more.

The Carrera Panamericana has since been resurrected by Eduardo Leon, as classic road rally and will run from 21-27 October 2011. Click here to visit the site
