Best of The Cahier Archive: Gilles Villeneuve

Submitted by on March 24, 20116 Comments

Today’s feature gallery contains images of the legendary Gilles Villeneuve

So much has been written and said about Villeneuve, but for me Jody Scheckter summed it up pretty well when he delivered this eulogy:

“I will miss Gilles for two reasons. First, he was the fastest driver in the history of motor racing. Second, he was the most genuine man I have ever known. But he has not gone. The memory of what he has done, what he achieved, will always be there.”

This is the latest in our series of  photo specials showcasing the stunning images from the Cahier Archive. The collection, by photographers Bernard Cahier and his son Paul-Henri are part of a massive collection of 400 000 originals of which 17 000+ pictures are currently available on their website.

As great as these pix are, they only begin to describe how exciting Gilles was when he was on the track. He is still missed.

I was too young to fully appreciate Gilles, but I’m trying to do so, in BBC highlights.
