Video: Porsche 911 crashes at 2012 Phillip Island Classic

Submitted by on March 12, 20125 Comments

A terrifying crash involving Bryan Taylor in his 1977 Porsche 911 caused concern for both car and driver at the 2012 Phillip Island Classic.

The incident occurred at turn 12 of the high speed Phillip Island circuit when Taylor’s collided with a spinning car in front of him. The impact sent his Porsche 911 barrel rolling and summersaulting through the air.

Early reports are that Bryan is badly bruised, but otherwise OK.

Wow…glad to hear Bryan is okay……one of the hardest things as a flagger is to stay there and flag when you see an incident like this occur…Kudos to the Marshals….

I was driving the yellow Pantera that had just passed on this video in about 6th spot, so I had no idea what had occurred just behind me.
Did a whole lap under the red flag wondering what had happened and where. When I saw Bryan`s car, I feared the worst but thank God he was ok. Reminds us all that you can be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thanks as ever to all the officials who have to deal with this if and when it happens.

Flaggers were flagging GREEN when the incident had occurred? Wow – pretty bad.
And how can you do a full lap under red? Red means come to stop.

Firstly, that is a huge one, glad he is ok. Being able to get away in any state is bonus from the typical outcome when that car was first manufactured.
And good work for all the officals at PI (and all other circuits) for a steady head and quick response by paramedics.

Dave U, watch both videos in full. The decision for waved red flag is issued by CoC only under CAMS rules, and if you watch it was deployed quite quickly. Drivers are to slow down and proceed to the pits under CAMS handbook. As the incident was close to the pit entry point, a close to a full lap would be done. 72Pantera followed the correct procedure as per standing rules.
