Widescreen gallery – Nürburgring Classic: Eifel-racetrack celebrates 90th birthday

Düsseldorfer Automobil- und Motorsport Club 05 (DAMC05) held the inaugural edition of the Nürburgring Classic at the Nürburgring over the 16th to the 18th of June. The event brought a magnificent collection of historic motor machines to the historic circuit in celebration of its 90th birthday.

Sit back and take a minute to taste the track-side atmosphere seen during the very first edition of this brand new European historic racing event.

The Nürburgring Classic offered spectators three days of historic motorsport, including races and demonstrations. Several German historic motorsport organisations participated in the weekend, including the FHR – Drivers Association of Historic Motorsports, the German Touring Car Classics featuring former DTM cars, pre-war vehicles and the Youngtimer Trophy.

Highlights included a three-hour race, the ADAC-Eifelrennen, featuring the FHR Long Distance Cup and Youngtimer Trophy using both the Nordschleife as the Grand Prix track. This was born from the Eifelrennen, which was the opening race held in 1927.

Another highlight of the weekend was the presence of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Classics (German Touringcar Classics) featuring former DTM and STW touring cars.

Other races included Formula Junior and Historic Grand Prix cars, Historic Formula 2, the Battle of the Dwarfs with tiny Fiat 500s, Minis, NSUs etc. and the Historic Touring Car Trophy (HTGT).

As well as the on-track action, spectators were treated with demonstrations of historic motor cycles, cars from the pre-war period and much more.
