Video Documentary: Champions Forever

Submitted by on January 18, 2011

Enjoy this cracker documentary called  ‘Champions Forever’. ( I also think it was once called “The Quick and the Dead”)

The film is narrated by the actor Stacy Keach and includes excellent footage from a plethora of legendary venues including  Monaco, Interlagos, Montjuich Park, Anderstorp, Zolder, Paul Ricard, Silverstone, Nurburgring Nordschleife, Monza and Watkins Glen.

The documentary takes a general look at what Formula 1 is all about and provides some understanding of what makes these brave drivers tick. Its not a race by race account of the 1973 Championship battle that saw Jackie Stewart emerge as World Champion.

Highlights are too numerous to mention, but include some very honest and revealing  interviews with Francois Cevert, Mike Hailwood and Peter Revson and footage of a young Niki Lauda muscling his BRM around Montjuich Park. Oh and footage of Cevert frolicking with topless lovelies in the Mediterranean plus wild scenes from the camping area at Watkins Glen featuring pissed locals doing donuts, jumping dirt bikes, burning cars and getting nude. (Seems this was not behavior exclusive to the Bathurst 1000)

Just before his tragic death at Watkins Glen, Cevert sums up his feelings when he says ” I have passion for motor racing and its my business, I cannot be more happy!”

Grab your favourite beverage, sit down and get comfy for the next hour.
