Motorclassica set for October 2011

Submitted by on August 4, 2011

Motorclassica, the Australian International Concours d’Elegance and Classic Motor Show, will return to Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building from October 21 to 23, 2011.

Organisers expect an even bigger showing of classic vehicles for the second year, based on early expression of interest from entrants, exhibitors and patrons.

Increased entries are likely in motorcycles and Australian cars, both of popular local marques and their less well-known predecessors.

Motorclassica earned wide praise from both local and overseas enthusiasts, including guest judge Sir Stirling Moss, who was particularly impressed by the heritage-listed venue.

“It’s a beautiful venue for the cars – they look so good there,” he said.

“I’d be surprised if Motorclassica doesn’t grow, because of the crowds of people who were there and the fantastic state in which the cars were presented.

“This was a wonderful display of beautiful machines – really fascinating cars and some of them exceptionally rare – and next year I would like to come back to see how it has grown.”

Event director Paul Mathers said Motorclassica 2011 would bring out a whole new showing of world class cars, as the cars entered in the concours could not return for three years.

“Even before this year’s event was over, people were talking about what cars they might enter next year, and encouraging friends and associates to participate in the future,” he said.

“For 2011 we will continue our policy of not charging a fee to compete in the concours, while car clubs are encouraged to participate in Picnic with the Classics for no more than the price of a discounted ticket to the main concours and classic motor show.”
