RACV Motorclassica 2011 ready to kick off in style

Today, with Tour Classica winding its way through Melbourne’s city streets, RACV Motorclassica finally starts with a bang and a cough of smoke from the exhaust.

For those heading to the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne below is a list of things to make the most of your visit

Tour Classica Albert Park

More than 75 cars now confirmed to drive from Albert Park (outside the pit buildings) to the Royal Exhibition Building, commencing at 12.30pm sharp. Great photo opportunities exist at Aughtie Drive, Clarendon Street, Spencer Street, Flagstaff Gardens, LaTrobe Street and Rathdowne Street.

Classic Motor Show

More than 80 exhibitors have come together to bring you Australia’s largest expo dedicated to the classic motoring lifestyle.

Auto Art Show

Some of Australia’s leading automotive artists have come together this year to present the Auto Art Show, showcasing a variety of media including oil, watercolour, pastel, pencil, photography, modelling, sculpture and even jewellery.

Australian International Concours d’Elegance

109 cars will be presented as part of this year’s Australian International Concours d’Elegance, one of which will take home the coveted “Best in Show” award. With 11 classes and three special awards, the concours is bigger than last year and the standard of cars extraordinary.

Holden Hurricane

We are so very pleased this year to host the re-launch of Australia’s very first concept car, the 1969 Holden Hurricane. The most advanced vehicle for its time, this car signaled a true coming of age for the Australian automotive industry.

Porsche Anniversary

It was almost 60 years ago today that Australians were stunned by their first sight of a Porsche. To celebrate, we have curated a display that ranges from the aforementioned 356 to the 962, with a brace of 911s and a special 906 sandwiched in the middle.

Le Mans Legends

Derek Bell and Vern Schuppan will join us over the weekend, fresh from their appearances at the Rennsport Reunion in USA, to share their stories

Main Stage Program

For the first time at this year’s show, we will conduct a series of discussions as part of our main stage program.

Constantine Mandylas

To mark the anniversary of two epic motoring journeys as well as the anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Russia, classic car enthusiast Constantine Mandylas will drive a brass era Ford Model-T from Melbourne to Moscow via Africa

E-Type Anniversary

To celebrate the 50th birthday of Malcolm Sayer’s incredible design, more than 30 E-Types will gather this Saturday on the Eastern Forecourt, courtesy of the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria.

RACV City to Country Rally

On Sunday, up to 150 vintage and veteran cars will gather on the Eastern Forecourt for only two hours before heading off on the annual RACV City to Country Club Rally.

Bonhams Auction

The world’s leading classic, vintage and veteran auction house, Bonhams are proud to host this year’s Collector Car Auction and have assembled a range of wonderful cars for the event.

Picnic with the Classics

Following the success of last year’s Picnic with the Classics at Argyle Square, RACV Motorclassica will once again bring together up to 140 cars a day, on Saturday and Sunday.
