Chopard Classic Racing: Jacky Ickx

Submitted by on November 10, 2011

If you ever find yourself needing to check the remaining race time in the 24 Hours of Le Mans while hurtling down the classic Mulsanne straight at the top speed record of 405 kilometres an hour, we have you covered!

Chopard have released the fifth edition of their Jacky Ickx watch, paying tribute to the 24 Hours of Le Mans race and the man who won it six times in classics like Ford’s GT40 and Porsche’s 936. It really is a lovely thing – classic, clean lines set in stainless steel, black dial and black leather band to finish. A gold version inverts this with a silvered dial and two black smaller dials. The back of the watch is inscribed with Ickx’s signature and 6/24 to symbolise his legendary victories. Even the pushers carry the motorsport theme, designed to look like piston heads.

It is also packed with all sorts of useful features for the endurance racing driver. The dial is supremely readable even during night stints thanks to hands and markers coated in ‘Superluminova’, a 24 hour counter lets you know how deep into the race you are and a flyback function lets you start a new timing operation without having to fiddle around with resetting the timer. It even has a tachometric scale that will help you measure your speed over a thousand meter distance.

The watch is built to withstand the rigours of a race like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, its stainless steel case shock-resistant and water-resistant to 50 meters.

Just make sure that that your sleeve isn’t covering it during the post-race interview!

The 5th Edition Jacky Ickx by Chopard is available in a limited run of 2000 in stainless steel and 500 in 18-carat gold.
