Ducati 996

This sublime 1999 Ducati 996, ridden by three-time World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss to victory in the British Superbike Championship, is up for sale at Classic Motorbikes.

After a rocky 1998 season, Bayliss came on strong in 1999, scoring six poles and winning seven races over the 24-race long season. It was the start of a three-year winning streak for the Ducati 996, on which Neil Hodgson won the championship in 2000, followed by John Reynolds in 2001. The 996’s successor, the 998, would secure the 2001 and 2001 championships, making it five years on the trot for Ducati.

In 2000 the bike went to Ducati France to race in the French Superbike Championship with Frédéric Protat on board. This pairing resulted in two more championships, with Protat capturing both the 2000 and 2001 French Superbike Championships.

It recently enjoyed a full overhaul and is in perfect running condition – a tremendous little historic racer. It’s up for sale at Classic Motorbikes, and you can head to their website here to check it out.
