David Coulthard Breaks World Record: Catches Golf Ball in Mercedes-Benz SLS

Sometimes motorsport can get too wrapped up in the super serious search for slightly shaved seconds. It should be something exciting, something fun and something with a sense of pageantry, adventure, entertainment and even whimsy.

These are characteristics which were innate in the golden eras of motorsport, and Mercedes-Benz tapped into them recently when they got together with David Coulthard and professional golfer Jake Shepherd to try and put inside a 180 mile-per-hour golf ball in a Mercedes-Benz SLS.

And catch it they did. In this video Jake Shepherd strikes a 178mph ball, which Coulthard catches 275 meters down the road in the open cockpit of the SLS, setting a record for the furthest golf shot caught in a moving car. Check out the video above and the making of below.
