Photo Gallery: Remembering Maria de Villota
Motorsport Retro has been deeply saddened this week with news of Maria de Villota’s untimely passing. By all accounts she was not only a great driver and avid supporter of motorsports, but a genuinely nice person too. Today, we reflect on the life of the 33 year-old through images taken by her friends Mark and Keith Sutton.
Maria’s death has been linked to the severe neurological injuries she suffered following an accident whilst testing Formula 1 for Marrusia in England a little over a year ago. Losing her eye and experiencing considerable damage to her head, lingering effects from the collision eventually claimed her life during her sleep early in the morning.
She competed in Formula 3 as well as Touring Car and GT races, and will be sorely missed by many.
