Photo of the Day: Richard Burns (2000)

Richard BurnsThe Rally of Australia provides an almost apocalyptic backdrop as Richard Burns gives his Impreza hell.
Towards the tail end of the 2000 World Rally Championship, Richard Burns and Marcus Gronholm were throwing absolutely everything they could at each other. The Australian round was the 2nd last of the season, and a retirement in Italy just prior had meant Burns really had to dig deep and get some points on the board versus Marcus.

In the end he couldn’t do it, taking second place to Marcus Gronholm’s first. Burns would win the final round in Great Britain, however it wouldn’t be enough to stop the Finn from becoming the World Rally Champion of 2000. The Australian round was later voted as “Rally of the Year”.
