Paddy Hopkirk Brings the Power and the Speed

Submitted by on September 26, 2014

Paddy Hopkirk

Northern Irish rally great, and rally hall of fame inductee, Paddy Hopkirk proves that speed is timeless in this magnificent race through stunning British countryside in a big Austin Healey. And we agree – the word IS grunt!

This beautifully-shot short film injects some storytelling into the world of classic motorsport footage. We kick off with a classic western bar scene leading to a blast through the countryside that’s both an aural and visual delight.

Paddy Hopkirk began his racing career in the mid-’50s, winning the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally in a Mini Cooper S and becoming one of five drivers to receive a Coupe d’Argent for finishing the Alpine Rally unpenalised and within the target times three nonconsecutive times. He also spent time racing Australia, including finding some success on The Mountain.

Make sure to stay tuned until the end for some great vintage footage, and words of wisdom from the man himself both then and now.
