Balancing crisp, ageless styling, practicality and bulletproof reliability, Nissan’s Datsun 1600 went from the showroom floor to a Bathurst-dominating classic in record time.

Handsome looks, practicality and reliability made the Datsun 1600 a success on the road, and on the track it was even better.

The stock car was a light and nimble number that tipped the scales at a featherweight 915 kilograms. This lithe body meant the perky 1595cc four-cylinder motor under the bonnet was more than ample when it came to the speedier stuff. Front disk brakes, MacPherson strut front suspension and semi-trailing arm independent rear rounded out the handling.

The package was affordable and bulletproof, and went on to put a serious stamp on the history of The Mountain. Enjoy its story in Datsun 1600: Bathurst Supercar at Supermarket Price thanks to our friends at the Shannons Club.
