Pure Sounds: 1976 Lombard RAC Rally

1976 Lombard RAC Rally

Take a few minutes and spend them enjoying the pure sounds and classic rally racing action of the 1976 Lombard RAC Rally.

First run in 1932, the RAC rally, now known as the Wales Rally GB, is the United Kingdom’s biggest motor rallying event.

The 1976 race saw four-time British Rally Champion Roger Clark and co-driver Stuart Pegg take the victory. They had a Ford Escort RS1800 underneath them and pipped Stig Blomqvist and Bjorn Waldegard to the top step.

Roger had won the race in 1972, but this second win would be a little sweeter. In the years following his 1972 win, the race had become part of the World Rally Championship and he’d just claimed the first WRC win for a British competitor.

This video from Ford of the 1976 RAC Rally is pure classic rallying goodness. It’s packed to the brim with classic racing footage set to a symphony of Fiat 131 Abarths, Ford Escort RS1800s, Lancia Stratos HFs, Toyota Corollas and more as they push for rally glory.
