Debuting in the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona, Team Penske has spent the past five decades at the pinnacle of motorsport in the United States, and around the world.

This video, celebrating their 50th anniversary, tells their story.

Roger Penske kicked off his career in motorsport behind the wheel in 1958. He would go on to take the Indy 500 rookie test, before deciding in 1965 to retire from racing and concentrate on his up-and-coming Chevrolet dealership.

Having stepped out of the driver’s seat, he focused on competing as a team owner and founded Team Penske in 1966. The team’s first race was the ’66 24 Hours of Daytona, in which they fielded a Corvette Stingray that Dick Guldstrand, Ben Moore and George Wintersteen drove to the GT Class win. Not long after, in March, they would take another class win in the 12 Hours of Sebring.

The rest, as they say, is history. Team Penske has earned a motorsport record to rival the best teams in the world. And they’ve done it across the gamut of motorsport disciplines – everything from IndyCar to NASCAR, CanAm and Formula 1. Take a few minutes, and enjoy their story in this video narrated by Tom Brokaw.
