The HSRCA’s Tasman Trophy returned to Sydney Motorsport Park over the 19th and 20th of November for a spectacular weekend of historic racing in Sydney’s late-Spring sunshine.

The event brought together an awesome collection of historic sports and racing cars for three full days of historic motorsport. Formula Juniors headlined the meeting, which also played host to a round of the Tasman Tour 2016 and the Formula Junior Diamond Jubilee World Tour.

The Tasman Tour and Formula Junior Diamond Jubilee World Tour drew some particularly special cars from both Australia and abroad, with a contingent of significant international cars taking part.

The ex-Chris Atkinson Lotus 20/22 of Phil Foulkes made the journey across the Tasman, while J.R. Mitchell brought two Lotus 18s from the States and Doug Elcomb shipped his Dreossi Special from Canada. From the U.K. came Duncan Rabagliati’s Alexis HF1. Aussie Juniors included Mike Rowe’s lovely Koala FJ from 1963 and the gorgeous 1959 Stanguellini Formula Junior that Norm Falkiner has been racing for many years.

Group S put on a particularly entertaining 45-minute relay enduro on Sunday morning. The driver change, to be completed between laps 8-14, was great fun to see and kicked off the day with a nice shot of adrenaline. Drivers did not hold back on the pace either, putting their cars to work in the morning heat and treating the race like a sprint.

From the mighty March 86C to the oldest car to line up – a 1948 MG TC Special – the variety of machinery on display was impressive. As was the stunning form in which they were presented, and the verve and vigor with which they were raced. As always, the Tasman Trophy was great fun to take in both from the side of the track and from the pits and paddock.

Take a few minutes to enjoy these shots from the 2016 Tasman Trophy. For more, head to the HSRCA’s website here and follow them on Facebook.

The historic sports and racing cars of the HSRCA will be back on track at Wakefield Park over the 8th and 9th of April, 2017.
