This 1968 Chevron B8 is not only absolutely stunning, it’s a veteran of the iconic Targa Florio. It’s up for sale at Historic Cars.

The car, chassis CH-DBE-81, was delivered to Lord Angus Clydesdale, Duke of Hamilton, aviator and a significant Scottish figure, in 1969. He immediately put it to good work, debuting it under Falken Racing Developments at the 1969 Monza 1000 Kilometres. Clydesdale and co-driver John Markey failed to qualify, but he would go on to compete in 30 events during 1969 and 1970.

Barely a week after the attempt at Monza, Clydesdale was at the Targa Florio with Edgar Berney. The team finished third in class, 24th overall. They repeated the third place class finish at the 1000 Kilometres Spa-Francorchamps.

Clydesdale and the Chevron entered two World Sportscar Championship events in 1970. They partnered with Mike Franey for the 1000km of Brands Hatch, pushing to fourth in their class and 14th overall, and would return to the Spa 1000 kilometre race where they unfortunately did not make the full distance.

Lord Clydesdale sold the car in 1971, with it going to Richard Simms who raced it in England before selling it on to Brian Classic in 1973. Classic would own the car for some years and run it in several configurations before handing it back to Chevron for restoration to its original coupe configuration. The car would pass between several hands during the ’80s, with a highlight being a class win at the Norisring in the Steinlager Championship at the hands of Tim Hassal.

In the late ’90s the B8 made its way to Chris Philips, who had it restored and raced it extensively before handing it over to Tony Bianchi in 2003. Bianchi would enjoy the car for a decade, competing in World Sportscar Masters.

When the Chevron made its way to its current owner it was treated to a full back-to-bare-metal restoration and painted in the red, white and blue livery you see it in today. It continued to compete in Historic Sports Car Club and Masters events, entrusted to Martin O’Connel Racing and Equipe Europe for preparation and maintenance. Highlights include outright wins in the 2016 Snetterton Autosport Historic 1 Hour Guards Trophy and Snetterton Autosport Historic All Comers as well as the 2019 Spa Classic.

It’s currently fitted with a Lester Owen BMW M10 engine with just two hours on it and has current FIA HTP papers, spare wheels and a complete spares package. That is to say, it’s ready to race.
