In this post, we spend some quality time getting to know the March 782 Formula 2 racer with a wide screen gallery by Marcel Hundscheid of Speed-O-Graphica.

Back in 2017 MSR presented a retrospective about the golden era of formula 2 racing cars. One of the F2 icons during the late seventies was the March 782 entered for the 1978 season.

March produced several cars for the Formula 2 championship, starting with their monocoque March 712M in 1971. Ronnie Peterson claimed the championship with a 712M in that particular year.

More designs would follow, such as the March 722, 732, 742 and 752. In 1976 the March 762 appeared, followed by the March 772 and 782. March ran the BMW works team in 1982 and dominated the European F2 championship with the 782 as Bruno Giacomelli claimed the title.

The 782 was based on the earlier March 772P, although March used the same basic chassis for all of their single seaters. The 782 featured full length side pods and was powered by a BMW M12 engine generating over 300 hp. Italian Bruno Giacomelli dominated the 1978 F2 Championship by winning eight races giving him the title.

Pictured here is chassis 782-24 seen at the Spa Classic back in 2018.
