The 2025 Historic Grand Prix was held on the Zandvoort race track, situated on the North Sea coast in the Netherlands during the penultimate weekend of June. The three-day historic motorsport event attracted a large audience featuring tropical weather conditions and interesting grids.

Masters Historic Racing was present as usual with the well-known Masters Racing Legends for F1 cars, Masters Endurance Legends & GT Trophy, Masters Sports Car Legends and the Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars and Masters Gentlemen Drivers. The Historic Grand Prix Car Association, the Belcar Historic Cup, NK HARC, F2 and F3 Classic Interseries and NK HARC 82-90 completed the extensive program.

Fans of historic Formula 1 cars were treated to plenty of interesting races. The Masters Racing Legends for Formula 1 cars from the period 1966-1985 had at least twenty cars reporting for the free practice sessions. Austrian Lukas Halusa, who lives in the Netherlands, showed what he was capable of during qualifying. Halusa started in a Brabham BT49C with which he immediately took pole position. From there he took the lead in the first race on Saturday and did not give it up.

On Sunday, he started from sixth place due to the reversed starting grid. After an impressive catch-up race, he occupied second place, well behind leader Mike Cantillon. The deployment of the safety car brought the field completely together. With only two laps to go, Halusa made his move and after a short duel with Cantillon took the lead and drove to victory again.

Masters Endurance Legends and Masters GT Trophy were combined into a single grid. Victory in the Endurance Legends went to Matteo Ferrer and Alex Müller in the Chevrolet Corvette C7R Daytona Prototype twice. Here too, the safety car proved to provide the necessary tension towards the end of the first race, partly because of the large lead of the Corvette that evaporated with the arrival of the safety car. Nevertheless, Ferrer and Müller came out on top and triumphed, which they repeated on Sunday.

In the Masters GT Trophy, Jac and Ties Meewissen triumphed twice. However, when it turned out that they had not switched off the engine during the mandatory stop on Saturday, the race management reacted decisively and handed out a time penalty. In this way, the victory in the first went to Neil Glover and Luke Reade.

The starting field of the usually well-attended Masters Sports Car Legends disappointed in Zandvoort. Only ten sports cars and GTs from the 60s and 70s took possession of the track. The reason for the poor turnout was the Le Mans Classic that is on the calendar in the first weekend of July. David and Olivier Hart had the measure of the opposition and drove their DHG Racing Lola T70 Mk.IIIB to victory twice.

The Masters Gentlemen Drivers and Pre-66 Touring Cars were also combined into one grid. On Sunday morning a rain shower cooled everything down and on a wet track, Alexander van der Lof and Yelmer Buurman fought it out with their Ferrari 250 GTO against the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe of father and son Hart. Olivier Hart eventually took the victory. Robert Ross and Matt Johnson took the win in the touring cars with a Ford Mustang.

The Historic Grand Prix Car Association is a familiar sight on historic programs. This was the case in Zandvoort, where more than thirty cars took possession of the asphalt ribbon through the Zandvoort dunes. Will Nuthall proved to be the man to beat again. In his Cooper T53, he was the fastest on two occasions. On Saturday, he crossed the finish line almost eight seconds ahead of Rudi Friedrichs. Nuthall triumphed again on Sunday, although the Briton had to do everything he could to hold off Friedrichs, who crossed the line in second place just seven-tenths of a second behind.

Formula 2 cars from the ‘70s and ‘80s continue to attract large crowds. Unique designs and the unadulterated sound of the two-liter engines usually provide the necessary spectacle. During the two races of the F2 Classic Interseries and Derek Bell Trophy that were driven, the battle for victory was between James Lay with a March 762 and Wolfgang Kaufmann with his March 782. On Saturday, Lay won by a safe margin, while Kaufmann narrowly won the duel on Sunday from his British competitor.

Formula 3 enthusiasts were given their wish in Zandvoort, because the organization had two different series on the program. In the F3 Classic Interseries it was Davide Leone who managed to win both races. The Italian turned out to be the fastest on the track after Alexander Weiss. However, the Dane lost the lead in both races due to bad luck, but managed to secure a fourth and third place behind Leone. In the one-liter ‘screamers’, Peter de la Roche won twice.

Touring cars in the Belcar Historic Cup usually produce beautiful cars and battles. In Zandvoort, Wim Kuijl drove the Ford Capri RS 3100 unchallenged to victory twice. Samuel Verheggen did the same with his Mercedes 190 2.5 16V Evo 2 in the NK HARC 82-90.

The Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort has now taken up a prominent place in the European historic motorsport calendar and should not be missed. We are already looking forward to the 2026 edition with great interest.
