Gallery & Report: The Nürburgring Classic 2025
By Marcel Hundscheid
The 2025 Nürburgring Classic took place from the 13th to the 15th of June, attracting more than 23,000 visitors to the Eiffel. We were at the iconic circuit to capture all the action and share it with you here today.
As usual, the organization put together a varied program with a great diversity of participating cars from different series. The historic DTM, DRM, STW and ETCC touring cars that are gathered in Tourenwagen Golden Era are crowd favourites, and this year more than 50 of these iconic cars were on the grid.
The Youngtimer Trophy was also present, a permanent part of this event. Absolute top speeds and the associated decibels were ensured with the presence of the BOSS GP Series. Ulf Ehninger was the fastest in both races with his Benetton B197.
The Classic Cup Golden Era made its debut at this year’s Nürburgring Classic. The championship is a one-make cup for Porsches from the period 1971 to 2005. The number of participating cars was disappointing during the debut. Of the nine registered participants, 5 eventually appeared at the start in the first race and only 4 in the second race. Hopefully this interesting championship will get the interest from the drivers that it deserves in the future.
Nearly thirty competitors were on the starting grid of the Historic Championship ’65. Here the sports cars proved by far the fastest, with Georg Hallau having the measure of the field in the first race with his Lotus 23B. Oliver Hartmann turned the tables during the second race of the weekend and triumphed with his Elva Mk.8.
Hallau also proved to be too much for the rest of the starting field of more than thirty participants to handle during the one and a half hour endurance race in Historic Championship ’81. He drove his Lola T210 over the finish line first with a lead of more than half a minute, ahead of the Porsche Carrera RSR of Hans-Ulrich Kainzinger.
Historic Championship CanAm & Sportscars consisted, as the name suggests, of a combined starting grid. Three cars did not start after qualifying, while seven of the eighteen did not reach the finish line. The victory in the first race went to the Dauer Porsche 962C of Klaus Abbelen. During the second race on Sunday, the battle was between Diego Romanini and Felix Haas. Romanini eventually proved to have the edge, claiming victory in a closely fought run to the finish.
Fans of historic single-seaters competing under the Historic Monoposto Racing banner can usually count on a large field of Formula Ford and Formula 3 cars. This time, the Formula Ford 2000s were definitely in the majority. Peter Drennan ruled the first race of the weekend with his Royale RP27. The battle for the lead in the second race was between Drennan and the two Färber Motorsport drivers Philipp and Andreas Menzner. Philipp took the win convincingly after twenty minutes of racing.
The Lurani Trophy for Formula Junior cars usually provides some close racing. Horatio Fitz-Simmons showed that he had the best credentials during the first race on Saturday and triumphed with a large lead over Manfredo Rossi di Montelera. However, the Martini heir was convincingly the strongest during the second race and crossed the finish line first on Sunday.
The two races of the Tourenwagen Golden Era received a lot of attention from the public. The first race on Saturday was an Audi battle between former DTM and STW driver Altfrid Heger and Anton Werner. Heger won the first race with a lead of only 0.468 seconds. During the second race, Heger dropped out after three laps due to a problem, after which the battle was between Werner’s Audi and the BMW M3 of former DTM driver Kris Nissen. Werner eventually won with a lead of only 0.743 of a second.
There were still the two races of the Youngtimer Trophy 1 and 2 that we obviously do not want to withhold from you. The Opel Kadett was central in both races of the Youngtimer Trophy 1. Adrian Remmele drove his Kadett C Coupe GT/E to victory in the first race of the weekend, while Sven Fisch dictated the pace in the second race with his Opel Kadett C Coupe.
In Youngtimer Trophy 2, it is usually the Porsches that rule, and this edition was no exception. Edgar Salewsky won the battle for victory from Oliver Boyke in the first race. The final race on Sunday was won by the duo Andre Kinkel and Michael Funke.
From 12 to 14 June 2026, there will be the next opportunity for unfiltered, pure classic motorsport at the Nürburgring Classic.
