Rally enthusiasts back in the COT for 2010

Submitted by on February 9, 2010

A second Classic Outback Trial will be staged throughout Western and Central New South Wales in August this year following encouragement from the competitors, local communities and sponsors that participated in the 2009 Trial.

The 2010 event will again be sponsored by Outback services provider Frontier Services to create awareness of their Outback Links programme, which aims to reduce isolation and disadvantage in Outback Australia by linking appropriately skilled and gifted volunteers with people who could use a helping hand.

The 2010 Frontier Services Classic Outback Trial will start and finish in Forbes, commencing Sunday, August 22.

In between, the field of up to 50 entrants in Historic rally vehicles built up to 1996 will compete in around 30 closed-road timed stages during their six-day loop of major regional NSW centres including Dubbo. An important stop will be at Coonabarabran, where Trial entrants will stage a street display as part of the town’s 150th Anniversary celebrations.

Overall, up to 20 per cent of the total 2,500km covered by the event is expected to be competitive, with participants enjoying more than 150km of timed competition on one day.

The event will open and close with timed special stages at Forbes’ Showgrounds and adjoining Travelling Stock Reserve, which will be open free for the public to view.

The 2010 Frontier Services Classic Outback Trial will finish at the Showgrounds on Saturday August 28 with a similar challenging 2.0km stage.
