Pit & Paddock: Unseen 60s & 70s European Motor Racing Images goes behind the scenes with never-before-seen images which tell the story of motorsport as it was in Europe and the United Kingdom in the ’60s and early ’70s. And you can help get it published.

The project is from Auto-Archives Auotomotive & Motor Sport Library and Research Center, a not-for-profit organization working to preserve and document automotive history and provide resources to study its past, present and future.

Pit & Paddock: Unseen 60s & 70s European Motor Racing Images will feature previously unpublished images from Peter Darley, with a forward written by the one and only Lord March. Dan Gurney and Sir Jackie Stewart are supporting the project, signing a limited number of art prints of photographs taken by Darley of them in the period.

It’s planned to be a 256-page large format (12X12in) hardcover and will feature more than 240 photographs of life behind the scenes at Brands Hatch, Clermont Ferrand, Crystal Palace, Goodwood, Jarama, Monaco, Monza, Oulton Park, Silverstone and Snetterton.

Drivers such as Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, Jackie Stewart and Jochen Rindt are featured, as are the magnificent machines they made their careers with in the ’60s and ’70s.

Pit & Paddock looks to tell an interesting story, and one which often goes untold as we focus so sharply on on-track action, delving into the world of the people which kept this iconic period of motor racing buzzing.

A not-for-profit organization, Auto-Archives are working to crowdfund the project on Kickstarter. Kickstarter pledge money is needed for the final stage of high-resolution negative scanning and for printing the book itself, for which Auto-Archives has partnered with Coterie Press.

With development well under way, the book is looking stunning. They’re currently about half way to their $24,500 goal with just a few days left – so rush to this link to support them and play a part publishing this tremendous work.

You can support them by pledging to a number of reward tiers. Rewards range from $25 for a 12X10″ art photo print of an image from the book, signed by Peter Darley, to a very reasonable $50 for a copy of the book, through several tiers of limited editions and beyond.
