This 1934 Maserati 8CM is petite, light and fitted with a three-litre 8-cylinder motor. It was one of Maserati’s very early customer cars, from when they decided to sell their monoposto Grand Prix cars to private buyers.

That trend continues today with the car up for sale at Fiskens.

In January 1934 Mme Nelly Braillard of Paris ordered two cars for Benoit Felchetto to race in the 1934 season. Felchetto found some success in this particular car, winning the Monthléry French Grand Prix in September of that year. He would also take a sixth place at Coppa Di Piemonte and fourth at Pau in 1935.

In 1935 the car was sold to Gigi Soffietti who continued to race it through ’36 and into 1937, achieving a best result of fourth at Tripoli in 1935.

1937 and ’38 would see the car raced by Edoardo Teagno for Sueria Sabauda with continued strong performances. They claimed fifth in the Coppa Edda Ciano in 1937, repeating the result at Albi in 1938.

By the mid-’60s the car had been significantly modified and was dismantled to be rebuilt to original condition. It would be the new millennium before the car would renew its competition career, after Sean Danaher purchased it and completed a full restoration in 2000.

It’s since competed at the Goodwood Revival three times, won the Maserati Club’s Fangio Trophy, picked up a class win at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and taken home ‘Driver of the Day’ at the Nürburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix.

As a beautiful, original and historically-significant example of the Maserati marque, the car is welcome at historic events around the world. It’s sold with complete FIA papers, with HTP paper approvals currently under way.
