Report & Gallery: The Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort 2026

The 2026 Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort, held in mid-June, was once again a feast for the senses. Summer weather, a wide array of historic racing classes, a packed paddock and bustling grandstands ensured that this edition too was a resounding success.
As is customary at Zandvoort, Masters Historic Racing was once again present with the Masters Racing Legends (1966–1985 F1 cars), Masters Sports Car Legends (Le Mans-style sports cars and competition GT cars from 1962 to 1976), Masters Endurance Legends, Masters Gentlemen Drivers, and Pre-66 Touring Cars.
The Tourenwagen Legenden arrived from Germany to race in the Zandvoort dunes, while the F2 and F3 Classic Interseries came over from France. Representing the home front was the Hankook NK HARC 82-90 championship, featuring touring cars and GTs from the 1982–1990 era.
The cars of the Historic Grand Prix Car Association are regular participants in the Historic Grand Prix. The largest field of competitors consisted of the GTs and touring cars from the increasingly popular Super Sixties championship.

Enthusiasts of historic Formula 2 and 3 cars were treated to the presence of the F2 and F3 Classic Interseries. During the first Formula 2 race, an extremely entertaining three-way battle unfolded between Mark Charteris, James Lay, and Wolfgang Kauffmann, featuring multiple changes of position. Charteris proved to be the fastest in his March 782, clinching the victory by a narrow margin of just two-tenths of a second.
During the second race on Sunday, neither Charteris nor Lay reached the finish line, allowing Kauffmann to literally dominate the race. The German took the win with a lead of more than half a minute.
n the F3 Classic Interseries it was once again Alexander Weiss from Denmark who won both races. Although he was challenged by the Dutchman Patrick Andriessen during the first race, he ultimately claimed victory by a margin of seven-tenths of a second. He had a bit more breathing room in the second race, crossing the finish line first after fifteen laps with a lead of well over two seconds.

With over thirty entries, the Hankook NK HARC 82-90 boasted one of the larger starting fields. The BMW M3 E30 left its mark on the races on two occasions: Leonard Batenburg took the win by a wide margin in the first race, while Pieter Bikker did the same in the second race on Sunday.
Around thirty historic Grand Prix cars lined up for the first race of the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association. Michel Kuiper appeared to be heading for a fine victory until he attempted to thread his way through backmarkers. As a result, he dropped down the order and ultimately finished fourth. Michael Gans eventually won the duel with Tim Child and claimed the victory.
Fortunately for Kuiper, his battered Brabham could be repaired, allowing him to race on Sunday after all. Child claimed the second race with a commanding victory, while Gans won the battle with Kuiper for second place.

The Masters Historic Racing organisation has been a regular participant in the Historic Grand Prix for years, and this year was no exception. The Masters Endurance Legends schedule featured two races of forty minutes each, including a mandatory pit stop. Matteo Ferrer-aza and Alex Müller drove the mighty Corvette C7R Daytona Prototype to victory twice, without facing any opposition.
A two-hour endurance race was on the schedule for Sunday morning for the Masters Gentlemen Drivers and Pre-66 Touring Cars. The battle for victory ultimately came down to the Ferrari 250 LM driven by Yelmer Buurman and the Ferrari 250 GTO driven by Nicky Pastorelli. Buurman held the upper hand and claimed the win with a lead of nearly six seconds.
Although the number of Formula 1 cars entered in Masters Racing Legends was smaller than what fans at Zandvoort had been treated to in recent years, the on-track battle was no less intense. Werner d’Ansembourg drove his Williams FW07C to a convincing victory in both scheduled races.

By far the smallest field came from the Masters Sports Car Legends. Only eight cars lined up for the first race on Saturday. As soon as the lights turned green, Olivier Hart sped off towards the horizon in his Ferrari 512M and drove to an unchallenged victory. Hart secured a double win after putting in a stellar performance on Sunday as well—albeit less dominantly, yet enough to take the chequered flag first.
The increasingly popular Super Sixties championship took to the track twice, featuring nearly fifty classic cars from the 1960s. Former racing driver and F1 commentator Allard Kalff claimed victory in the first race behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. For the second race, Bas Jansen swapped seats with Chris Chiles and proved too strong for Jan van der Kooi’s Lotus Elan 26R.
We conclude our report on the 2026 Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort with the Tourenwagen Legenden. A large, diverse field of touring cars and GTs entertained the crowd with two races. Both races were won by Stefan Mücke, driving an ex-DTM Mercedes C-Class, who left the competition trailing far behind.

The organisers of the Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort could once again look back on a highly successful event, with well-filled grandstands. The countdown is now on for the 2027 edition, which is likely scheduled for the summer period of next year.
